2025 AFOZM grant
for a US-based Curator to attend the 2025 Zeitz MOCAA Curated Art Tour to Rwanda & Uganda led by Koyo Kouoh.
The second annual nominated grant award provides a curator with an access and research opportunity to join the annual Zeitz MOCAA Curated Art Tour to an African country, a program originated by Zeitz MOCAA’s Executive Director and Chief Curator Koyo Kouoh (1967-2025). Koyo imagined the art tour experiences as an in-depth look at the creative communities of each city, including visits to institutions, artist studios as well as introductions to fellow curators and art practitioners. The trip also provides culinary and cultural experiences unique to each destination. The intimate nature of the trip allows for curators to closely interact with Zeitz MOCAA patrons, team members as well as art trip hosts, artists, art professionals and business leaders whom we visit.
The 2025 AFOZM Grant is made possible with support from Diane and Charles Frankel and American Friends of Zeitz MOCAA. This 2024 AFOZM Grant for a US-based Curator was awarded to Erin Christovale. This grant was made possible with support from Michael Silver & Stephanie Thomas and American Friends of Zeitz MOCAA.

The AFOZM Grant for a US-based curator is by nomination by our independent jury. Outside submissions are not considered. The nominees are then invited to apply with a motivation as to why the experience would be beneficial for their own curatorial line of research and professional growth prior to the jury selecting a winner.
